Overview

As the Manager of Competitive Intelligence, Enterprise Food & Beverage for the combined Enterprise of QuickChek and Murphy USA, your primary responsibility will be driving market research and insights to help the business deliver its goals. The successful candidate will possess curiosity, attention to detail, high energy, agility, and sound business acumen. This individual will be able to operate in a flexible, fast-paced environment that is highly collaborative and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to formulating a hypothesis-driven approach to key business problems to ensure important questions are addressed fully and accurately.
  • Provide insight to various teams on a weekly/monthly/quarterly cadence regarding industry trends – both on customer and market-level shifts – and subsequent industry implications.
  • Synthesize actionable insights from internal and external company data sources by applying appropriate analytical techniques.
  • Establish a system/framework/dashboard for tracking and maintaining industry and competitor insights.
  • Identify and represent Enterprise Food & Beverage (as appropriate) at industry conferences, trade shows, events to foster relationships and increase knowledge.
  • Monitors market conditions, trends, and competitors to project business sector or consumer demand and inform product launch timing.
  • Research competitor behavior including marketing strategies, pricing, sales, quantity, materials, promotional activities, and methods of operation.
  • Identifies purchasing behaviors, price or discount sensitivity, and brand loyalty across customer segments and sales channels.
  • Simulates the impact of proposed marketing campaigns and measuring results against targets.
  • Assists in coordinating and managing external vendors and contractors to gather, analyze, and report on market research data.
  • Provide fact-based, strategic, customer-centric points of view. Partner with category managers & Analytics, especially, to connect the dots to build integrated, inspiring and insightful category strategies to inform business decisions. Offer foresights to help shape the future through strategic thought leadership and an understanding of execution parameters.
  • Coordinate with Analytics to prepare reports summarizing qualitative and quantitative industry/competitor research findings.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Expect to travel ~15% of the time.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  • A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience - preferably in the quick service restaurant ("QSR"), convenience store, food & beverage, and/or multi-unit retail industry across insights, analytics, market research, marketing, business development, and/or equivalent functions.
  • A four-year college degree is required.
  • Knowledge of the US food & beverage industry.
  • An agile, continuous improvement mindset with a strong curiosity & desire to learn.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Proactive, with an ability to see things through from start to finish.
  • Strong organizational and communication (written/verbal) skills.
  • A personal reputation for honesty & integrity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products (Powerpoint, Word, Excel)
  • Self-aware, humble, and willing to be a player-coach in a fast-growing part of the business.
